Back at Eric and Julia's flat, he
turned to look at her.
"You alright love?"
"Aye, I suppose so," she answered.
He pulled her close, looking
straight into her eyes.
"Thanks for defending me back there,
" said Julia.
"Of
course I'd defend you!" said Eric. "You're my girl and I love you.
Carol's full of herself, what she said was absolutely untrue. She's
full of it, if you ask me. "
Julia paused. "I love you too," she whispered.
"Everything's gonna be alright,"
whispered Eric. "I promise."
Julia nodded. "I'm sorry about that with Johnny
going all evil on you lot," she whispered.
"Yeah," said Eric sadly. "Me too."
"What happened?"
"I dunno," said Eric, his forehead
against hers. "Everything seemed fine, then he just snapped."
"I heard Connie talk about
something, she said they got an offer for their own show," said Julia.
"They did?"
"Aye."
"Hmm," mused Eric. "Whatever Johnny
wants he gets I s'pose. But still, it would have been nice if he'd told
us."
"Right," said Julia. " I just wish
there was something I could do to help, maybe I could talk to him?"
Eric paused, thinking. "Funny how the timing was,
especially since we were working on the Grail too."
The Grail
in question was to be the lads first full film, written on their own.
The previous one, though fun, had just been a mix of sketches from the
first and second seasons of the Circus. Julia'd
played the Deirdre Pewty part again for the Marriage Counselor bit, and
she wondered if that'd helped lead to Carol's animosity toward her.
Truth
was, she'd been happy just to have been needed by the lads. True, she
didn't have acting experience, or stage experience of any kind. To her,
being in with them was just
about having a laugh, a laugh with her mates and the man she loved.
Even
the Military Fairy bit had been hilarious to do over, they'd gotten
giggles going into places, still in their military gear, people
actually believing they'd been genuine soldiers.
Wherever she was needed, in whatever
way, she'd be there, she'd decided.
"Eh, darling?" she heard Eric ask.
"Hmm?"
"There was something else I'd been
thinking about, been thinking about it for a good long time."
"What is it? Something good I hope."
Eric paused, his eyes searching
hers. "I would think it to be a good
thing," he said softly.
She felt his arms tighten a bit
round her as she looked at him, a puzzled expression on her face.
"I
was thinking..how..um..how really great it would be if you and I were
official, you know, like we're together now, everybody knows, but to
make it REALLY official would be even better."
"Like put out an advert or
something?" asked Julia.
"No," said Eric, turning a little
pink. "No, no."
"Something on the show then?"
"No."
Julia frowned.
Eric couldn't help but chuckle at
the expression on his girlfriend's face.
Julia's eyes got as huge as saucers. "You...you.." she sputtered.
"I'm asking you, yes, right here and
right now," said Eric.
"Yes," she said. "Yes, Eric I will."
"GREAT!" he exclaimed, hugging her
tight. " This will be so great, darling, I promise."
"I think so too!"
"I 'aven't a ring right now, but I
will get one. Promise."
"No worries, dear, no worries.
People can still be engaged..whoa."
"What's wrong?"
"We're engaged," said Julia in a
awestruck voice.
"Golly yeah," smiled Eric. " We'll
have to keep it a secret for a bit though."
"Yeah," said Julia, immediately
understanding. "You wanna wait until everything's good with the mates
again, eh?"
"Yeah."
"As far as Carol goes, 'tis okay if
she doesn't like me anymore. I dunno what I did to cause it."
"As far as that bit with Johnny,
he'll come around, I'm sure," said Eric. "He has a tendency to be a
arsehole sometimes."
Julia nodded.
