Just the Three of Us: Chapter 14

I think I'm just going to call a cab home. 'Twas good of TJ to offer to come and get me, but I'll let him be. He's as nasty as a grizzly when you wake him, despite what he says. Gilliam looks to be sober, he'll look after Gray and John.

Mike paused in his thoughts to yawn. Gray was right, yawning is contagious.

"Hey! You leaving?"

"Aye, mate," said Mike. "I'm getting a taxi home."

"I'll see to Gray and John," said Gilliam. "Make sure they get home in one piece."

"That explains why you volunteered to go, be the desi driver."

Gilliam nodded. "Easier just to be honest, than say I'm allergic to the stuff," he smiled. "I'd be lying out my teeth."

Mike laughed.

"Good night then," said Gilliam.

"Ta ra, mate," said Mike, who then yawned again.

"You too?"

"Aye. All that Jones's fault."

Gilliam laughed, and Mike left, a smile on his face. He caught a taxi to his flat, and as soon as he'd made it home, went straight to his room, burrowed in bed, and went to sleep.

Meanwhile, Julia awoke, blinking her eyes. She glanced back at Eric, peacefully asleep beside her. Her heart was full of love as she gazed upon him, but her mind was somewhere else.

On someone else.

She wondered what was wrong with Mike, he seemed really upset at the end of the taping, which puzzled Julia. He'd been weird seeming when Eric had said what he'd said about she and he going out for the night alone.

Almost as Mike didn't want to believe it.

Made her almost wonder if her previous assumption was true, that Mike was attracted to her, what had gotten her so royally teased by the other women.

Can't be attracted to your boyfriend and a mate. Mike's a sweetie, but if I went for him, I'd be too afraid I'd wreck the friendship.

When she'd met Eric, the attraction was instantaneous, seemed like everything clicked into place.

Her thoughts then reflected on what had happened between them earlier that evening, both body and mind burning from the memory. It was like a dream, well worth holding out for, waiting for. He'd been absolutely marvelous to her since the first day they met, and she thanked her lucky stars since.

Carol teased her once, asked her if she'd marry him if he'd asked. Julia didn't know, she didn't want to seem the type to just be out to snare a husband, lock 'em down, throw away the key, all that rubbish.

She remembered Carol rolling her eyes.

"It wasn't a assault on your personality, Julie, sheesh. Just a hypothetical."

"I s'pose, if he asked I would."

"What if Mike did?"

"That's not funny."

"Who'd you choose to be?" Carol had asked. "Julie Idle or Julie Palin?"

"That's still not funny, Caro," Julia remembered saying. "Things are great between Eric and me the way they are. I'm not going to wreck it. But if SOMEDAY, he wanted to marry me, I would."

Almost as if on cue, Eric's voice broke into her thoughts. "What you doing up?"

She rolled over to look at his puzzled face, eyes still blurry from sleep, hair all messed up. Julia chuckled at the sight, which puzzled Eric even more.

"What?" he asked.

"Nothing, love, nothing."

"You getting a giggle 'coz of me?"

"I believe I am."

Eric paused, a haughty expression now appearing on his face. "Wellllll.." he said in a posh voice. "That'll teach me. I wake up and get laughed at."

"I got a giggle at the sight of you. That's not illegal.," said Julia in a low tone. "However, some of the things you did were indeed."

He looked at her, eyebrow raised. "You didn't seem to mind."

"Why should I mind? A criminally attractive sex god isn't anything to mind at all."

Eric smiled. "Criminally attractive sex god, eh?" he said. "Looks like my mission's accomplished. No longer the innocent little ducky you were when I met you."

"Nope. Took my innocence you did."

"Proud to do it too."

They looked at each other a few minutes, before breaking up laughing.

"Honestly," said Julia softly. "Tonight was really special. Really meant a lot."

Eric smiled. "It did for me too, " he said.

Julia smiled back.

He leaned in to kiss her and whispered; "I love you Julia Boyd."

"I love you too Eric Idle," she whispered back.

"Good night," he whispered, settling back down ,pulling Julia close to him.

She snuggled into his embrace, Eric's face the last thing she saw as she fell back to sleep.
