Nowadays Every Night: Chapter 6

The next day was back at Doune, it was windy and cold, but she didn't mind.

Not one bit.

"What's all this then?" she asked Neil.

"The BBC's come to check things out," he answered. "The Film Night gang."

"Really?" she asked, craning her neck, which was rough with all her gear on.

"You getting talked to then?" asked Charlie. "Being one of them?"

"I doubt it," Julia said.

"They're talking to me," said Neil. "Just for little bits. Nothing serious."

"Eh! It's cow day for you then, right?"

"Bloody hell," groaned Neil.

"It'll be alright," smiled Julia, trying to cheer him up.

He smiled in return.

Whilst they were taking a break, Carol approached Julia.

She'd been talking to Eric, and he'd left to talk to a presenter from the TV show.

"Hello."

"Hello."

"I just wanted to apologize for before. I was out of line for what I said to you."

"No, no. You were right. I don't have experience, not as much as you do. I was just in to have fun."

"You've got talent. Really you do. I'm sorry for being such a cow."

"Apology accepted," said Julia, as she shook hands with Carol.

"So how are things with you and Eric then?"

"Good, seemingly," answered Julia.

Carol looked at her. "Anything wrong?" she asked.

"No. Honestly no."

"Julie, you can tell me."

"Thanks but honestly I dunno if I should," said Julia.

"It won't go past you and me, " said Carol. "Promise."

"I've had feelings for Michael," said Julia. "Whilst I've had feelings for Eric. In essence, I'm in love with two men."

"Oh dear."

"Oh dear is right. The other night I had a dream about Mike, a bloody naughty one. WHILE I was in bed with Eric!"

Carol's eyes widened. "You didn't say Michael's name did you?"

"No thank God."

"That's good then, right?"

"Right. God, Carol, what should I do?"

"I think I might have your solution," said Carol. "See that young lady over there?"

"Yeah."

"She's been looking at Michael nonstop all afternoon. If you find some way to hook him and her up, you'll be in the clear. "

"Right! Then I won't have to worry if anyone found out I'd had.."

"Exactly."

"And us lot are the doctors in the Castle Anthrax bit, right?"

"Right," said Carol.

Julia nodded, thinking. "This just might work."

"Look out, Eric's coming," whispered Carol.

"Right," said Julia.

Carol disappeared, and Julia turned to smile as her boyfriend approached.

"Hello!"

"'Ello darling," smiled Eric. "What are you up to then?"

"Nothing, nothing at all," said Julia. "How'd the TV bit go?"

"Good. Bloody presenter wouldn't realize I was kidding with him. It was obvious I was taking the piss and he just believed everything I told him."

"Maybe he doesn't have as good a sense of humour," said Julia.

"Not as good as you, eh?"

"I should have a good one by now, been round you long enough."

Eric chuckled. "Touche," he said, smiling.

He then pulled Julia close to him in a hug, and as she hugged him back, she looked over his shoulder to where Michael was standing.

She couldn't keep from it.

The girl in question was making her way towards him, and Julia almost felt a pang of jealousy.

Even whilst this was happening, Eric nuzzling her neck and all, she was moony over Mike.

Maybe this will work, he and that girl will get together on their own. No one will have to know about me.
